3M and Sony agree settlement

30 July 2007 — St Paul (MN): 3M and Sony have reached a global settlement regarding a lithium ion battery patent dispute.

3M filed lawsuits in March against five electrical giants claiming they had infringed on the company’s patents.

Under the settlement, Sony Corporation and Sony Electronics are now licensed sources of batteries containing 3M’s cathode technology. The specific terms of the settlement have been kept confidential.

Sony, Lenovo Group, Hitachi, CDW and Panasonic maker Matsushita Electric Industrial were all named in the original lawsuits.
