2018: This April saw the formal coming together of Switzerland-based reseller iba and multichannel operator Office World to form a new company known as OWIBA.
While the two brands remain completely independent, MTH said that the two entities will be working much closer together in the future. This is expected to result in better collaboration between the B2C (typically Office World) and B2B (typically iba) channels and is very much in line with the parent’s broader policy.
Johann Pintarich took on the CEO responsibility at iba when former Office World/iba CEO Christa Furter left at the end of January, only a few months after both iba and Office World were bought by MTH from Swiss parent company Migros in October 2017.
Pintarich has over 15 years’ experience in the office supplies industry, having spent the past eight years as Managing Director at MTH Retail Group’s Pagro subsidiary in Austria.
Iba currently employs around 190 staff, with annual turnover topping CHF90 million ($93 million). Founded in 1939 and named after original owner Ilo Basci, the company has grown to become one of the largest B2B office supplies resellers in Switzerland, stocking over 13,000 items ranging from general office supplies to jan/san and breakroom products.
The past 12 months has seen the relaunch of its new, redesigned web shop aimed at offering its 160,000 customers an improved and simplified shopping experience.
