Curtis DataSafe 285®

DataSafe 285® sleeves protect sensitive data from unauthorized RFID / NFC skimming. DataSafe 285® is a coated material developed by Curtis 1000 Europe AG made of tear and water resistant Tyvek®. It has been tested and certified by the German TÜV and provides a shielding performance of 99,99% of RFID or NFC waves.

The RFID / NFC technology is replacing the usual identification technologies such as EAN codage, chip and magnetic cards. It enables the automatic identification and tracking of objects and living beings. It also makes reading and storing of any data very easy.

RFID / NFC technology is frequently used in:

• Passport and ID cards
• Banking cards, credit cards, customer cards
• Contactless payment systems
• Security systems
• Product tracking

An RFID / NFS system consists of a transponder, a reading device and an IT system. As the transponder is very small, it can easily be integrated even in small objects. The transmission of data from transponder to reading device is not noticeable. This holds some risks:

• Unauthorized spying on sensitive data (birth date, patient history, transfers…)
• Tracking and surveillance of individuals
• "Transparent customer" --> buying habits can be followed and analysed without noticing
• Information can be falsified during the submittance by outside influences
